Is Snapchat a Waste of Time for Real Estate Agents?

So you’ve been hearing about Snapchat and this is what you are probably thinking:

  • It’s for millennials and they don’t buy houses.
  • Why would I want to make content that disappears?
  • I don’t think silly selfies are professional

Yep, I’ve heard all of those and more and I’m not here to convince you that as a real estate professional, you should be using an app like Snapchat.

What I can definitively say is that times have changed and how we market and brand ourselves has too.

Remember when the iPhone didn’t exist – yeah that was only 10 years ago. We thought “No way am I gonna pay over $500 for a phone when I have a perfectly good flip-phone that makes calls.” And now, you can’t imagine life without it.

Same goes for how we’re communicating today. Thanks to apps like Snapchat, consumers expect little to no barrier between a themselves and a brand. Today we can tweet, snap and message basically anyone on the planet (including the most powerful man in the U.S.)

With all that change comes new expectations and consumers want to connect with a real estate professional who they can relate to because when you’re relatable, you’re relevant.

Snapchat may not be your platform of choice, but it does offer easy media creation on the go and most importantly focuses on what matters to us most – humanity.

Sharing our lives on the screen that’s always with us builds familiarity and trust and the best way to make more money is to build more trust.
